These are words that are very common in early reading material for children and so with time, kids visually memorize them. Sight words are words that kids learn to recognize instantly by sight – they no longer have to sound out the words. However, these worksheets, with a combination of tracing, free writing and word identification make sure that kids remain mindful during the activity. It is important to make sure the child starts tracing at the top of the letters and does not put too much attention on trying to connect the dots perfectly – the goal is to learn the shape of the letter and be able to recreate it freehand.Īctivities like tracing can feel like mindless busywork for the kids and that is ultimately counterproductive. Despite the debate, it is undeniable that tracing is an effective way of teaching as long as it’s done in the right way. At the bottom of the sheet are a couple of blank lines to practice writing the words.There are varying opinions when it comes to using tracing to teach kids how to write. Then, using the size of the boxes as a guide, write the correct word in each row. Again, your students will need to trace the words found in the bank. The last worksheet is a writing activity. In the sight word coloring activity sheet, your child will need to trace the words found inside the word bank and then color in the pandas below the bank that have the correct sight words on them. I tried to use the simplest words possible, but you may still have to help your child to read the sentences. Using words from the bank at the top of the page, your child will need to complete the sentences. The following handout is a fill in the blank activity. I've included arrows so students know exactly which line to write the word on. Your students need to unscramble the letters to form the correct popcorn word and then write it on the line. Below the box are four writing lines and four cars that have jumbled letters. I had to leave the word "a" out, because it's hard to scramble the letters in a one-letter word. Once again, there is a word bank with 4 high frequency words inside. Have your child circle all of the honeycombs that have the sight words from the box written on them. Below the word bank are honeycombs with different words on them. In the second paper, there is a box with all of the sight words inside. Have your child trace each word and then practice writing the word freehand a few times on the remaining space. Each word is written in a traceable font at the beginning of each line.
